Somehow our conversations in class can veer towards some interesting topics. In a class activity about whale evolution, we started to talk about the exploding whale. For the unenlightened, here’s the video. I first watched this in high school and it always brings back warm and fuzzy memories.

Maker Faire!

On Saturday, I went to the Maker Faire in San Mateo. It was my first time…and I think I’ll return every year now.

“Maker Faire is a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It’s for creative, resourceful people of all ages and backgrounds who like to tinker and love to make things.”

Geology test

I just realized I forgot to post the dates for the Geology test! Sorry…however, this should not be a surprise since we’ve been talking about it for weeks now! And going on the study guide in class should be a hint.

Here’s the deal for the Geology test. It is an OPEN-NOTE test….meaning you can write whatever information you deem necessary on a 5″ x 8″ index card. You may use both sides. Now, DON’T FORGET TO STUDY! Since you will have the card, I will ask more questions that will require you to APPLY your knowledge. I don’t want to test your skills of “finding the answer” on the your note card.

TEST DATES:

Block I: next Monday, May 5

Block II: next Tuesday, May 6

Block III: next Monday, May 5

Tomorrow is the Science Fair! Bring in your goods!
We’ll set up before snack and you will be presenting your work to visitors throughout the day. The schedule will be posted in the beginning of the day. You will be given a Science Fair observation sheet along with a Self-evaluation regarding your project.

Geology Study guide

Yes, the evil teacher has scheduled a Geology test for the week AFTER the Science fair. To be slightly kinder, I’m making it an open-note test. Each student has received a 5″ by 8″ index card which they can write notes on and bring to the test. I did warn everybody that they should not fore go studying because of the open-note format.

Next week there will be Block time on Monday and Tuesday set aside to work on the study guide.
