Plate tectonics is the process of the continental and oceanic plates moving to create the Earth’s continents, mountains, and oceans areas. In recent science news, geologists have found evidence that suggests plate movement may start and stop at different intervals. Scientists have assumed that the movement of the plates is a slow but continuous process. A new study from researchers at the Carnegie Institution suggests that plate tectonics may have stopped at least once during the planet’s history and it may do so again.
