Homework for the Week of Dec. 3rd
December 2, 2007 by tifftai
After you’ve collected data on oil spills in class, you will take your journal home for the homework assignment. Here’s the assignment: Spill-Be-Gone brochure
Due date:
Block I: Wednesday
Block II: Friday
Block III: Thursday

No homework for over the weekend! We’ll start the chemistry unit next week.
I was surprised to learn that oil spills could do so much damage to the enviroment. This information stood out because it involved olants and animls.
The most interesting thing I learned was that when ducks and other water birds are exposed to oil, their feathers become matted and can’t repel water.
The most interesting thing I learned in this webquest was that oil can be burned right off the water! It’s really cool that you can have a fire on the water. Also it’s pretty crazy how many dangers we have with oil and how many ways we can prevent oil spills.

I learned a lot of interesting things from the websites about oil spills you suggested. But if I had to choose just one interesting fact that I learned it would be how easy it is for us to stop oil spills—DONT USE AS MUCH OIL!
The most interesting thing I learned was how harmful oil spills are. I didn’t know much about oil spills until recently. I am very surprised about how many animals can be affected by oil spills. The thing i really learned was to use less electricity and and oil; I also learned that I should try to use my car less.
I was really surprised how harmful the oil spills can be. I always thought that oil came from cars. Well, it does but lots of other thing too. i feel really sorry for ducks because when the oil goes in there wings, the can’t repel it so the can’t swim.
how sad!
This webquest stuff was really helpful. I thought this woulb be boring but it eally wasmn’t
i didn’t know that oil made such a good use i only thought it was used for cars and other vehicles. i knew the oil spill was bad but now that im learning more about it i notice that it can affect alot of people in a lot of different ways.
it was really depressing at one of the websites that wanted you to imagine that you were a killer whale and suddenly you looked and there was a lot of black oil coming at you and everything underneath was dying. I thought that was very sad. It makes me realize just how bad oil spills are for the environment.
I didn’t know there were so many ways oil spills could happen. People driving ships that are carrying oil should pay attention so they don’t make mistakes. I was surprised to learn that terrorists dump oil to get the attention of another country. (Gosh, those terrorists again! They’re everywhere! And now they harm the environment!) I suppose I already knew this, but not all ships carrying oil have double hulls, so that definitely increases the chance of even more spills occurring. I find it kinda funny (and I find it kinda sad) that we use oil to make machines more efficient (by decreasing the amount of friction) so they don’t use as much fuel so they don’t harm the environment as much and then some oil spills and it hurts plants and animals real badly and I know that was a run-on sentence. On a random note (no pun intended), I rather enjoy the song “To the Last Whale”.
i learned alot about the oil spills and how easily they can happen.but the big thing is that we need to use less oil all together. for instance riding a bike to school unstead of riding a car or on the bus.
